In a true expression of artisan ideals, Bruno Rocca, both vintner and wine merchant, has become one of the great icons of Barbaresco alongside Gaja. Not quite reaching the magnificence of the 2001, which was among the most elite worldwide, this 2003 confirms his passion for the vine and his knowledge of what to do with it. It has enormous strength, character and substance. The raw materials are there, beautifully structured with knowledge and oenologic savoir-faire. Its bouquet of fruits, flowers and wood is in perfect balance, in tune. Forest, plum confiture, licorice, balsam, spices are evoked here. Robust, with notable quality throughout, and a tannic, fleshy and complex character. Bitter tones predominate, expressed with subtlety, over an acidic foundation. It personifies the region, land and vintner. Striking in its noblility.
